Effexor: what s it?

Nowadays most people live a very busy and fast life, they have much things to do and much problems arise in a short time. And most people even can’t find any time to have a rest and to relax from everyday fuss. This is the reason for many mental problems, stresses and depressions, which became common in our days. But even a minor stress can lead to serious severe diseases and make a life of a person unmanageable. This gave an incentive for producing special medicines for treating such mental disorders. There are a lot of antidepressants, which exist in the market, which help people to cope with their diseases and return to normal pace of life. Effexor is one of them. It was introduced to the public in 1993. It’s a kind of antidepressant which gives a relief to people who suffer from depressions. The active component of this drug is Venlafaxine Hydrochloride. Effexor is sold either in the form of capsules or tablets; one capsule may contain different dosage of Venlafaxine: 37.5mg, 75mg, or 150 mg.

Effexor: effects

Effexor is an antidepressant, which acts like a restorer of the balance of some certain substances in a person’s brain and improves mood and mental problems. Venlafaxine researches have shown that it’s excellent in releasing people from pain (like headache) and disbalances in a brain, which cause depressions. For the best and quickest result it’s recommended to take Effexor according to the prescribed dosage.

Effexor: dosage

If you are going to take Effexor, consult your doctor. He will decide on the dosage for you, taking into consideration your weight, age, level of mental anxiety or depression. Also inform your doctor about any medications you take, because several drugs are not recommended to take together with Effexor. Most commonly the dosage prescribed for the treatment of various mental depressions is 75 mg to 375 mg; and the dosage prescribed for the treatment of anxiety is 75 mg to 225 mg. These are the dosages for adults per day. The amount of Effexor bought depends on the dosage prescribed, so as not to miss even one dose.

Effexor: facts to know

Before purchasing Effexor it’s essential to know some important facts about it. So, before you start your Effexor course, get aquainted with the facts listed below:

  • Before taking Effexor, consult your doctor. If you decide on taking Effexor by your own it may lead to some implications and disorders.
  • Don’t take Effexor together with MAOI (MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitors). This combination may cause a serious and fatal reaction.
  • If you stopped taking MAOI (MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitors), wait for at least two weeks before starting Effexor treatment.
  • Also at least one week should pass between Effexor treatment and starting taking MAOI (MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitors).
  • Inform your doctor whether you are allergic to some drugs or components. Also tell him if you have liver disease, kidney disease, glaucoma, bipolar disorder, seizures, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, epilepsy, blood clotting disorder.

Effexor: side effects

The same as any other antidepressant, Effexor has some side effects. It’s recommended to know them in order to notice them when they occur and don’t be in panic. So, here is a list of most usual side effects of Effexor:

-        drowsiness;

-        stomach upset;

Hi all…I’m new here. I have been on EffexorXR 300mg for a year and a half. Next week I’m going to ask my doc to take me off, because the “stressors” that were in my life that caused me to start taking it in the 1st place are all out of my life. Now, I MAY still be depressed after I get off and that’s fine, put me on a new med.,but I cannot take the side effects to Effexor anymore! Have people who are on Effexor noticed being hot all the time? The sweating…god! It’s terrible! I’ve even been diagnosed with hidradenitis supportiva(disease of the seat glands) and I truly believe that this is a direct result of the Effexor. I have accidently forgotten to take my meds 2 times in my history of taking Effexor and let me tell you, it was NOT pretty! Fogginess in my mind…(I couldn’t even drive), intense sweating and shaking, increased irritablity, hypersensitivity to sound and light, nauseaus, intense chills, no concentration, severe crying from anxiety over not feeling well. All these symptons subside within an hour of taking a dose….

I’m so scared to get off the effexor this time…even with a tapering off….

any help anyone can suggest?

THIS IS HARD………….

Hi…Thanks for offering your thoughts on my problem. I have only had this for such a short time and I really havent even come to grips with this. I was widowed almost 3 years ago and since then my life has been downhill. I came back to Canada from Holland
because I really hated it there. I was doing ok until about 3 months ago. I have always remembered some of this but always kept it away from me.

Since this has happened I have had so many terrible memories and flashbacks come to me. I will not talk about the details because I cannot talk very well about it yet without panicking. Anyway I was physically, mentally and sexually abused for pretty well all my life from my Dad and my husband. So many things that I somehow managed to block out are driving me a little nutty now. I have the same nightmare almost every single night about the last time my husband violently raped me and tried to kill me.

I can barely handle life day to day and have almost managed to try to overdose myself on Paxil not long ago.I thank god I didnt
succeed.

I am working so hard at counselling and getting myself together here. My doctor, an md , thinks the counselling is making me worse and I should quit and just forget about it and get a life. I have very little trust in her any more. Everytime I go in there I come out with something new. On top of the anitdepressants I also have sleeping pills and tranquilizers. She just hands it out and then asks me if I am suicidal.

Anyway this is long enough and kind of difficult to write for me.

Take care all, thinking of you…

Jackie

Hi..I am new here with lots of questions

Hi

I just joined. I am really confused. I have ptsd and depression. 2 months ago I started on Paxil, then 2 weeks ago I tried to overdose and they gave me Zoloft, I dont sleep because of nightmares and the sleeping pills were to strong for me so they gave me Elevil to take before bed.

Anyway I take a Zoloft in the morning, a Paxil in the evening and a Elevil at night. I am sort of a walking zombie right now.

I dont function very well because I just dont seem to care lately. I am dizzy sometimes, always shaky and still get flashbacks and nightmares and panic attacks.

I keep asking my doctor if this isnt too much but she says no and tells me only to consider quitting counselling and get a  life.

Being as I am usually confused and scared she did not help me with that comment.

Anyone got an opinion on this??

Thanks ..

Jackie
