Effexor withdrawls

Posted by admin on October 5, 2010 in Anti Depressants, Effexor with 2 Comments

Hi all…I’m new here. I have been on EffexorXR 300mg for a year and a half. Next week I’m going to ask my doc to take me off, because the “stressors” that were in my life that caused me to start taking it in the 1st place are all out of my life. Now, I MAY still be depressed after I get off and that’s fine, put me on a new med.,but I cannot take the side effects to Effexor anymore! Have people who are on Effexor noticed being hot all the time? The sweating…god! It’s terrible! I’ve even been diagnosed with hidradenitis supportiva(disease of the seat glands) and I truly believe that this is a direct result of the Effexor. I have accidently forgotten to take my meds 2 times in my history of taking Effexor and let me tell you, it was NOT pretty! Fogginess in my mind…(I couldn’t even drive), intense sweating and shaking, increased irritablity, hypersensitivity to sound and light, nauseaus, intense chills, no concentration, severe crying from anxiety over not feeling well. All these symptons subside within an hour of taking a dose….

I’m so scared to get off the effexor this time…even with a tapering off….

any help anyone can suggest?

hi and welcome. I’ve been on regular
Effexor since the end of March, and I’ve had relatively
few side effects. real lucky, I guess. I noticed the
feeling hot and increased sweating when I first started,
and then again when my dosage increased [I'm
currently at 225mg per day, which I'm taking ~every 5-7
    hours when awake, to try to keep things 'evened out';
I've noticed a tendency towards falling asleep too
    early ;) ].

As far as suggestions, there a few
really good websites in our links area; between what
you’ve said, and what’s posted there, I’m not looking
forward to the day when I have to start withdrawal. Some
people are saying it’s best to taper off over many
    months.
best luck, and keep us posted [no pun intended],
    Rick

I think you’re probably wise to try to get off
the meds if you’re having so many side effects. I’ve
been on 375 mgs. for over two years and the one time I
tried my dr. was so stupid he never told me to wean off
and I just stopped. Within 48 hours I was taken to a
mental health center, where I was immediately put back
on the effexor. I honestly thought I was going to
die. I couldn’t move any part of my body without the
electrical tingles going through me. I was so ‘seasick’ if I
even move my eyes I felt like I’d throw up. I had the
most horrendous panic attack. The people at the mental
health center were appalled that my doctor had just let
me stop taking this drug. That was nearly two years
ago and as long as I take my Effexor I’m fine. I have
a horrible fear of ever being without it. It’s a
mental addiction fueled by knowledge of withdrawal side
affects. I didn’t say this to scare you, just please
remember to wean off very slowly – at possibly a quarter
of a pill at a time, a week at a time. Anything any
faster and you’ll know and you can up the dose a little
until you can work it back down. Just don’t get
frustrated and quit all at once.
